The short story titled “Becky and the Wheel-and-Brake Boys” is about how Becky desperately wants to own a bike despite the resistance she is met with from her mother and Granny-Liz.  The conflict emerges when Becky’s mother and Granny-Liz ridicule her request, asking her if she thinks she’s a boy and where would the money come from.
