Materials Alignment Toolkit
A suite of tools for evaluating the alignment of instructional and assessment materials to the Shifts and major features of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), the Materials Alignment Toolkit was developed in partnership with Achieve, the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and the Council of Great City Schools (CGCS).
Each tool evaluates a different type of material:
- A comprehensive textbook or textbook series (IMET)
- A specific grade-level within a textbook or textbook series (GIMET-QR)
- Lessons or units (EQuIP Rubrics)
- Grade or course-level assessments (AET)
- State summative assessments aligned to college- and career-readiness standards (CCSSO Principles)
- Assessment passages and assessment items or tasks (Checklists)
- Supports for English Language Learners (ELL Framework)

Criteria for states to consider as they purchase, develop, and evaluate high-quality state summative assessments aligned to college- and career-readiness standards, including the CCSS.
Tools for evaluating assessment passages and assessment items or tasks for alignment to the Shifts and major features of the CCSS.
A tool to use as a framework for establishing and articulating a rigorous and coherent program for serving English Language Learners (ELLs).
