David Riesenfeld

After obtaining a BA in History and an MA in Curriculum and Instruction, David Riesenfeld began teaching history in rural northern California. He then moved to New York to join a large comprehensive high school in Long Island City where he taught History and Social Studies for three years. David then joined the founding faculty of a new, small school in Brooklyn and currently, he is the Assistant Principal for Academics at Robert F. Wagner Secondary School for Art and Technology in Long Island City. At school, his work involves faculty development, individual teacher supervision, programming, and data management. Outside the school, he is a fierce advocate of the new Common Core State Standards and works with teachers to better understand and implement the fundamental shifts embedded within those standards as they relate to the teaching of traditional academic disciplines.

David is a Core Advocate. Core Advocates are educators from across the country who work closely with Student Achievement Partners to develop, curate, and review CCSS resources for teachers and who are eager to support their colleagues in understanding and owning the standards as part of their practice.
