Dr. David D. Paige

Dr. David Paige is Professor of Literacy and Director of the Jerry L. Johns Literacy Clinic at Northern Illinois University. Following a career change, Dr. Paige spent five years as a middle school special educator and then joined the faculty of Bellarmine University where he co-founded the university’s first Ph.D. program and was the inaugural chair. Dr. Paige was the principal investigator of the Bellarmine Literacy Project (BLP), a $3.2 million project with the Jefferson County Public School District that trained 800, K-3 reading teachers. Paige also founded the Thinking Schools Academy, an initiative in India that has trained 1,500 teachers in instructional strategies to encourage higher order thinking in students. Dr. Paige has published some 50 studies and articles in journals including the Journal of Educational Research, Reading Research Quarterly, Journal of Literacy Research, Reading Psychology, and others. Dr. Paige is a former President of the Association of Literacy Researchers and Educators.
