This lesson includes scaffolded analytical writing tasks that provide examples for teaching Common Core writing.
Chief Sky, the beloved leader of the Cherokee tribe, is growing old. He decides it is time to find a new leader to take his place. He calls three young men to his side and tells them that one of them will become chief, but must first be “put to the test.” (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Journeys, 2011)
