Coffee and Conversations: Queering Your Curriculum: LGBTQ+ Advocacy

For this session, Bex Mui, a queer, cis femme, biracial social justice advocate, discussed what it looks like for K-12 teachers to support LGBTQ+ identity in the classroom through policies, practices and curriculum.. She is currently the education manager at GLSEN, a nonprofit organization focused on LGBTQ support in K–12 schools. In her role, Mui creates resources, oversees GLSEN's professional development program, and supports educators and administrators in creating LGBTQ-integrated schools. Mui received her master's degree in education from Bank Street College with a specialization and certification in literacy. She worked for 10 years as an elementary teacher, equity and inclusion director, and LGBTQ coordinator. Mui has led schoolwide LGBTQ inclusion and social justice initiatives and has developed equity-themed professional development workshops for faculty, administrators, and families.
