Coffee and Conversations: It’s not too early! LGBTQ+ Advocacy in Elementary Schools
- Description
- Files
This month’s Coffee and Conversations provides an opportunity for elementary educators, and those who support them, to learn about creating affirming classrooms for all K-5 students. Bex Mui, she/her, our November C&C guest, is returning to share more detailed information about LGBTQ+ advocacy with our youngest students.
This session will address some of the following questions:
- Why begin LGBTQ+ advocacy in elementary school?
- How do LGBTQ+ advocacy and AB/AR teaching overlap? How can this be done in an intersectional way that centers LGBTQ+ Black students and other LGBTQ+ students of color?
- What does advocating for LGBTQ+ people (students, families, community members) look like in the K-5 setting?
- What resources are available?
Bex will share resources and anecdotes, so whether you are an educator who identifies as LGBTQ+, a supportive allied educator with experience engaging young students in these conversations, or someone who wants support in starting this work, this session is for you.
