Coffee and Conversations: Trauma-Informed Practices for STEM Classrooms

  • Description
  • Files

For this session, Idil Abdulkadir (she/her), an educator working as a classroom mathematics teacher, shared findings from her research on trauma-informed best practices for STEM classrooms. She spent 6 years working with students who were formerly refugees which fueled her interest in trauma-informed pedagogy. In her work with students, Idil is constantly thinking about students who live at the margins of our constructions of studenthood. She views classrooms as communities; a union of the communities that we create in them and the communities we bring to them. In her work in student leadership, Idil ran a Student Voice Club dedicated to advocacy and activism, as well as founding a mentorship camp for young Muslim women in her community. Idil is also a 2019 Desmos Fellow.
