John Henry competes against a steam drill in driving steel and proudly claims that he would sooner die than let a steam drill beat him. Henry beats the steam drill and ultimately dies. However, before he dies, he tells his baby that he, too, must grow up to be “a steel driving man”. (Prentice Hall Literature, 2010)
