This is a poem about love that Poe has written in memory of his wife, whom he calls Annabel Lee. Annabel Lee and the narrator were so in love that the angels in heaven could not help but be jealous of it. It is that jealousy that Poe blames his wife’s untimely death upon. Despite her death, their love still remains, and no one and nothing can stop that. (McDougal Littell Literature, 2009)
