As stated in this research study of text analysis tools that measure text complexity quantitatively, "The Common Core State Standards draw attention to the need for students to engage with texts of appropriate complexity throughout schooling. This goal requires valid and reliable measures of text complexity that can guide curriculum decisions, assist assessment development, and support the efforts of educational publishers to meet complexity guidelines. This report addresses the extent to which current measures of text complexity meet this requirement."
